Overview of Condition:
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread pain, tenderness, and fatigue. It affects the joints and soft tissues which causes chronic pain. Fibromyalgia is uncurable and characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. It is believed that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
How cannabis can help:
Research shows that that cannabis is an analgesic. Because of the analgesic properties of the plant, cannabis relieves the pain of fibromyalgia. According to a survey conducted by the National Pain Foundation in 2014 with 1,339 participants, the majority of them reported that medical marijuana is the most effective way to treat the pain of fibromyalgia.
- 62% reported cannabis as “very effective” in treating their symptoms
- 33% reported that cannabis “helped a little”
- Only 5% said it did not help at all
Topical application as needed on localized pain. Transdermal application can be used in cases of severe pain to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. Other patients seem benefits in pain management from consuming cannabis medicine either via ingestion or inhalation.
